Editor's Letter: November Issue
I just filed my graduation application. Although I have one more semester to go (and a bar exam!), looking back, I believe I made the right choice of coming to law school. Admittedly, J.D. has not been an easy path. It's fair to say that I had my own ups and downs. Still, learning law allowed me to get one step closer to my lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer in the fashion industry. Along this journey, I formed new relationships that showered me with support - something that I am truly grateful for. At some point, I doubted myself, sometimes too harshly. I hate to brag, but those who have agreed to my interview on this blog are top industry talents you'd see only in the likes of Vogue. So, I kept asking, "Do I deserve all of this?". I now find it inappropriate to pose that question in the first place because, by doing so, I would end up betraying the faith they have shown to me. Now, I do not dwell too much on this negative feeling of self-doubt. I rather now focus on making sure that I deliver the promise I made to them: that I will keep learning and be a passionate advocate for pivotal issues in fashion. That's the only way I can return their favors.
On a slightly different (but equally important) note, today is the Election Day! Although I cannot vote as a non-citizen, it is incumbent upon you to vote so as to make our voices heard. I am not a social activist, but the last four years have turned out be too unbearable one year after another, to say the least. I know, from my law school education, how challenging the act of casting a ballot has been in America throughout its history. It might still not be universal in substance in light of insidious voter suppression stratagems in some states. Yet, the values I hold dear are at stake in this election. The outcome will have far-reaching consequences and those consequences will reverberate well beyond 2020. Most importantly, we cannot live in this divisive world any longer. We need to heal that division. Hate is the last thing the world needs in this historical epoch we've been thrown into. If this election is the test, let us not fail twice.
