Editor's Letter: 1st Anniversary Issue

The 1st Anniversary of Legally Fashionably Late

March has normally been a season of blossoming hope for me. This year, it feels a tad different: this March is a season of renewed hope. The pandemic is surely foregrounded, but something much "bigger" is at play. It's this sense of being thrown into an indeterminable transition, a feeling that has so far been foreign to me. Nothing's ascertained. Just about when I was about to be entrapped by this strange feeling, Soo Joo reached out to me and asked me if I can help her with translating an article she was contributing to Vogue Korea. Without an iota of hesitation, I said yes. I must say I felt immensely liberated while translating her piece. After sharing her own insecurities, which indeed requires real courage, she talks about a project titled "EBIT". EBIT stands for Enjoy Being In Transition. Without sounding too mythic, it felt like a Delphic oracle. Around the similar time, I was offered the chance to translate an interview with Marine Serre for Dazed Korea. In curating his latest collection, he emphasized the incalculable value of going back to the very first of everything. It resonated deeply in me. Fatigued, I might have lost sight of what has kept me moving forward: legal knowledge in service of others. Now, I feel much freer. Maybe, I was gripped by the potency of the language. Ideas gain expressive power as they find proper forms. That's why this blog is so dear to me. So, as a way to go back to my first, this month, I will be posting my original interviews dedicated to models who are effecting real changes in real life. If you are feeling worn out these day, hopefully these interviews will be electrifying. On that note, Enjoy Being In Transition!
