Editor's Letter: April 2021
My graduation cap and gown arrived yesterday. I applied for the New York Bar Exam. Only thing that stands between now and the commencement ceremony is two papers and three exams. Reflecting back on my three years of law studies at Fordham School of Law, I feel grateful that I have learned a lot, both personally and professionally. At the same time, I should admit that I sometimes felt frustrated at not knowing the law as much as I could and should. Nearing the end of 2L, one realization struck me: that I had to willingly expand my horizons to teach myself inter-related areas of law to become a competent lawyer. In that regard, this blog was a great learning tool for me. I voraciously read complaints - the starting point of every litigation - and diligently analyzed them. Throughout that process, I was able to familiarize myself with both the substance and style of an excellent complaint. Most importantly, I acquired a crucial set of skills necessary to offer a well-rounded legal advice. For example, I learned how to read quarterly financial statements and understand key business decisions. I still do not know what the future holds for me. Yet, I can tell you one thing confidently. Nothing will dissuade me from inching towards my ultimate dream of protecting the well-earned rights of creators.
Tomorrow, the Hansen Intellectual Property Institute is holding the 28th Annual Intellectual Property Law & Policy Conference. A lot of coordinated efforts went into the preparation of this conference. I'm sure you'll learn about the cutting-edge issues in IP. It sounds like a perfect coda to me. On that note, I wish nothing but happiness to all of you!
